There are two ways to order.  Go online at www.marketday.com or use an order form, available from the school office.

What is SCRIP?
Simply put, SCRIP is just another name for Gift Certificates. These certificates are equivalent to cash when used at the vendor listed on them. SCRIP vendors are numerous and include grocery stores, retail stores, restaurant chains, gas stations and others.

Why is SCRIP called the “Painless” Fund Raiser?
Holy Cross purchases SCRIP from the retailers at a discount. You then purchase the gift certificates at the face value of the certificate (this is the cash value of the certificate when used at the store). The amount of the discount Holy Cross received from the retailer is profit.

EXAMPLE: You purchase $50 in Martin’s Gift Certificates. At the store you use the gift certificates to pay for your purchase. If you are due change, you will be given cash up to $5.00, or a new certificate if the change is over $5.00. Since Holy Cross only paid $48.50 for the certificate (the 3% discount), you have just raised $1.50 for Holy Cross. This may not seem like much, but last year we raised $34,000 from the sale of Scrip Gift Certificates! The discount Holy Cross receives on the vendor gift certificates ranges from 2% to 30%. The SCRIP order form lists all sources of gift certificates and the discount percentage Holy Cross receives.

It’s called the “painless” fund raiser because you normally would make these purchases anyway (groceries, gasoline, clothing, etc.). And when you use the gift certificates to make these purchases, it raises money for Holy Cross and can help you reduce your tuition. There is no additional cost to you, only the time it takes you to purchase the certificates at Holy Cross.

How do I participate in the SCRIP Program?

  1. SCRIP order forms are sent home each week with your child on Wednesday in the parent folders.
  2. Enter your order on the sheet and send the sheet back to school with your child on Thursday with a check for the amount ordered. Checks sent will not be deposited until Monday.
  3. SCRIP will be sent home with your child on Thursday. If the SCRIP you request is not on hand, it will be ordered and sent home the following week.
  4. You can also purchase SCRIP after all Masses at Holy Cross and St. Stanislaus in the back of Church.

SCRIP is the major fund-raiser at Holy Cross School.  In the academic year 2008-09, SCRIP raised $34,000 for the school.

How do you fit into this picture?
We have a program called SCRIP TRIP (Tuition Rebate Incentive Program). The program was started as an incentive for families to purchase SCRIP, to not only benefit Holy Cross as a whole but to reward the families who choose to participate. Each family is given a SCRIP number. We use this number to track total purchases for each family throughout the year. This year’s program runs from April 5, 2009 to April 8, 2010. At the end of the program year,  you will receive a tuition rebate. Your rebate will be 50% of the profit you generate through the use of SCRIP gift certificates. This rebate is used to reduce your last month(s) tuition. Last year we issued around $15,000 in tuition rebates. For some families this amounted to 1 - 3 months tuition.

Profits from the SCRIP program are used to keep the cost of everyone’s tuition down. It is not a glamorous fund-raiser, the money generated goes to pay everyday expenses like heat, electric and salaries. Without it the cost would be spread across everyone’s tuition. The SCRIP program will put $10,000 in a capital improvement fund. This money will be used for special projects around the school so you will be able to see a result from all your efforts. The beauty of this program is that SCRIP is available for every day items, groceries, restaurant gift certificates, clothing, stores, gasoline and the list goes on. The gift certificates are used the same as cash. So, you can buy groceries and gas and earn money for your school. You are also earning money towards you child’s tuition.
